I know there's a hydrant around here somewhere

Probably the fault of the new guy.   

Think of it this way:  Now they can teach the kids there is an extra exit point out of the house when a real fire occurs.

    Our son-in-law is a fireman. He will appreciate this. Or not. Either way, I plan on harassing him with it.
